Profits Are Made in Real Time
A growing number of embedded systems are depending on a Real Time Operating System (RTOS) to deal with today’s fast evolving system demands. From the combination of complex user interfaces, to streaming media, network interfaces, and real-time constraints, a RTOS delivers the high performance and reliability that a consumer grade operating system, such as Windows or Linux cannot. In the past, the development and maintenance of a RTOS often was done in-house. Today the trend is to use a commercially available RTOS, such as RadiSys Microware OS-9, allowing vendors to focus on core competencies where higher margins and real profits exist.
